DRY
HCl GAS GENERATION UNIT
|
|
DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
& EQUIPMENTS |
|
GRAPHITE INDIA
Dry HCl Gas generation units are designed and
manufactured for producing high purity HCl Gas from 30-33% HCl
solution. Moisture content in the gas is negligible which
makes it versatile in use for many critical chemical reactions
in process industries. Although HCl gas can be produced by
drying with sulphuric acid, this is not a widely used method
because of high moisture content in the product gas and also
severe corrosion problem in down stream equipment and effluent
problem. In our units dry HCl gas is produced by distillation
of hydrochloric acid. For this, two alternative routes are
available and selection of a route depends on the nature of
by-product to suit individual customer’s requirement. |
| |
|
In
both routes, distillation of commercial grade HCl is carried
out in suitably designed impervious graphite column, either
packed or tray type. A polyblock type graphite thermosiphon
reboiler is used to supply thermal energy for distillation.
Moisture associated with HCl gas is knocked down in an
overhead graphite knockout drum to ensure final HCl gas purity
upto 99.9% plus. |
| |
|
In
one of the routes bottom product comes out as 20-22% HCl
liquid which is an azeotrope. This azeotrope is passed through
a heat exchanger and is brought to a storable temperature.
This can be further concentrated to produce 30-33% HCl if
required. |
| |
|
In
other route, 50% CaCl2 solution is added
in the distillation column to break the azeotrope. 45% CaCl2
associated with HCl which comes out as bottom product is concentrated
to 50% in CaCl2 concentration section
which is recycled to the distillation column. The main advantage
of this route is by-product as 1% HCl, and it can be easily
disposed off.
